What We Believe
THE DISTINCTIVE NATURE OF THE CHURCH OF CHRIST
The character of the Church is not shaped by the ideas or preferences of its members, leaders, or preachers. Its identity flows from the heart and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the author of our faith, who must have pre-eminence in everything we say and do. We speak of being “distinctive” because the Church of Christ is, by its very nature, a spiritual body set apart. In a world where countless religious groups seek justification, this distinctiveness becomes evident to anyone who observes closely. The Church finds its defining mark in the Gospel, our ultimate authority and the starting point of our calling as disciples. As Jesus commanded:
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
